Meet the Tappx Team: Interview with Fernando Saiz
Since one year ago, the Tappx Team has tripled in size. One of our newest members is new to Tappx, but old to the industry. He has more than 10 years experience working in the tech industry, publishing and advertising.
Fernando, I see you have been in the business a long time. How long have you worked in this industry?
I’ve been working with digital products in all different manners since 2003.
Can you please describe your experience?
When I was 14 I started developing and monetizing small desktop apps. Since then, I’ve been working in different areas of the digital landscape, always very close to marketing, product & technology.
Specifically, I worked with adtech publishers in my very early stages, most recently in the capacity of a performance manager. As manager, I ran and optimized advertising budgets over $100k per month in different channels across all continents.
What are some of the evolutions you’ve seen to the industry?
Nowadays, ads are relevant and meaningful. In my 20s, I blocked the ad suggestions, but now I want to see them.
Can you tell us your biggest career milestone?
When I was 19 I developed a one hit wonder. It was a desktop player that enhanced the Youtube experience.
It was all about running a web service as a native desktop app. It was a pretty innovative idea for 2006.12 years later, we can still see that improving user web experience native experiences is the foundation of current mobile apps.
What was your proudest day at work?
I enjoy the quick wins so much that I take them as big ones. So I’m not sure about the answer.
Can you name a mistake that advertisers often make that could be easily avoided?
I hate wasting time importing and exporting data. Why not boosting productivity by using an IPaaS?
Do you have any growth hacking tips that everyone should know?
When everybody knows the trick, is no longer an advantage, it’s just the new standard. So let me avoid answering it by using the silly saying of all talent shows: ‘Be yourself’
If you could only keep 3 apps on your phone, what would you keep?
Whatsapp, Android market, and in the empty slot…. just by default the google search bar. With the android market, I will replace the apps I want.
How do you disconnect from work?
I can say my profession is my passion, I really enjoy it. But something I also love is the sweetness of doing nothing. Nada. Dolce far niente. Having a rest is an important part of the work cycle.
What is the first app you open most days?
If you won 1 million dollars, what would you do with it?
Finally an easy question! I would erase the balance and start again. Dreaming is the best part ….
